In 1990, when he was named Black Engineer of the Year, Art Carter was vice president and general manager of Boeing's Missile Systems Division. An electrical engineer, Carter spent his entire career advancing with Boeing, working his way up the ranks of leadership. Retired since 1998, Carter serves on the boards of numerous organizations in and around Seattle, including the Citizens Oversight Panel of Sound Transit, a $4-billion transportation improvement project for the Puget Sound area.

Mechanical Engineer   

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency responsible for providing transportation and port commerce facilities and services for world-class airports, marine terminals, bridges, tunnels, rail and bus terminals. We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer. 

In this position you will perform responsible, complex and advanced engineering duties related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. You will be responsible for preparing engineering studies, economic analysis and technical evaluations of various design alternatives. You will also develop final designs and lead technical staff during the preparation of contract drawings, specifications and construction cost estimates. Other responsibilities include preparing project schedules and cost plans, monitoring and maintaining project progress. 

To qualify, you must posses a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of eight (8) years experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning system engineering work. Qualified candidates will have a comprehensive knowledge of central heating and refrigeration plants and local building codes, as well as detailed knowledge of computer utilization in heating, ventilation and air conditioning system design. Demonstrable expert proficiency in AutoCAD 2000 is required. Ideal applicants will have the ability to supervise the work of others, to work independently and to work effectively with other units. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also necessary.
