In 1990, when he was named Black Engineer of the Year, Art Carter was vice president and general manager of Boeing's Missile Systems Division. An electrical engineer, Carter spent his entire career advancing with Boeing, working his way up the ranks of leadership. Retired since 1998, Carter serves on the boards of numerous organizations in and around Seattle, including the Citizens Oversight Panel of Sound Transit, a $4-billion transportation improvement project for the Puget Sound area.

Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering and Director of Texas Engineering Experiment Station 

The Texas A&M University System and Texas A&M University invite nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering and Director of Texas Engineering Experiment Station. This position provides administrative and academic leadership to develop and enhance engineering education, research, and technology development missions to serve the State of Texas and the nation as one of the premier colleges of engineering in the United States. 

This leadership role includes excellence in the management of the multiple missions of the college and associated service agencies to enhance the quality of all programs. Further, this position provides visionary leadership to foster strategic direction to promote the future excellence of the college in consonance with the Imperatives of Texas A&M's Vision 2020. Additionally, the Vice Chancellor and Dean serves as a leading spokesperson for Engineering in the State of Texas and the Nation, expanding external constituencies including business/industry, public agencies, the legislature, and professional associations; nurturing a sense of common purpose among faculty, staff, researchers, and students; further enhancing the diversity of the faculty, staff, researchers and student body; promoting interdisciplinary, multi-agency and multi-institution collaboration; fund-raising and extramural support to significantly expand the economic foundation of the college and agencies.

The Search Advisory Committee will begin to review applications on February 1, 2002 and review will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, a one to two page narrative summary of experience and vision for the College, curriculum vitae, and a list of names and telephone numbers of at least three references.
