Four students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (NC A&T) State University have joined an elite club of more than 1,000 University Innovation Fellows.

The Innovation Fellowship, a program run by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University, aims to apply design to all kinds of problems.

The Institute offers a fellowship to university students and workshops for faculty each year.

Since its inception, more than 1, 500 students at 185 institutions have been designated leaders of change.

Earlier this year, three NC A&T engineering students–Folasade Adekanle, a bioengineering major, Princeton Perry, electrical engineering senior,  Talia Thomas, senior, mechanical engineering–and Katarrey Smith, a junior, management,  completed training.

Students complete six weeks of online training and travel to a Silicon Valley Meetup.

Throughout the year, fellows participate in events and conferences and opportunities to learn from each other and Stanford mentors, as well as industry and academic leaders.

Bala Ram, Ph.D., serves as the faculty sponsor for these students at NC A&T.

University Innovation Fellows represent the student voice in the global conversation about the future of education. They work closely with faculty, administrators, and community stakeholders to design and implement activities to enhance that landscape.

Applications are now live for the University Innovation Fellows program Fall 2018 training cycle.  The deadline is May 21, 2018. Fellows are sponsored by faculty and administrators and selected through an application process annually.
