Virginia State University’s (VSU) bachelor’s degree programs in electronics engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology in the College of Engineering & Technology have been reaccredited by ABET.

ABET is the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering and engineering technology.

ABET accreditation ensures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

“We are exceedingly proud to once again receive ABET accreditation for two of our engineering technology programs,” said Dawit Haile, interim dean of the College of Engineering & Technology. “This reaccreditation is an indicator of the level of quality instruction our faculty is providing our students.”

Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.

One of the key elements of ABET’s accreditation is the requirement that programs continuously improve the quality of education provided. As part of this continuous improvement requirement, programs set specific, measurable outcomes for their students and graduates, assess and evaluate their success at attaining those outcomes, and improve their programs based on the results of their assessment.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. It currently accredits 3,709 programs at over 750 colleges and universities in 30 countries.
