CH2M HILL, a full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, has received an “Outstanding” rating for its Supplier Diversity and Small Business Program after successfully completing a July 22, 2009, audit by the Defense Contract Management Agency and the US Small Business Administration. CH2M HILL has held its “Outstanding” ranking, the highest of the five ratings bestowed on a company, since 1998.

“This audit validates that we are demonstrating CH2M HILL’s commitment to utilizing the local and small business community in delivering our projects," says Willie T. Franklin III, manager of CH2M HILL's Supplier Diversity and Small Business Program.

"From senior management down, CH2M HILL has a strong desire to provide meaningful project opportunities to the small businesses in the communities where we work. It is the right thing to do, it helps our local economies, and our clients benefit from the innovative and creative solutions that small businesses provide at a competitive price.”

For the past five years, CH2M HILL has subcontracted more than $1.3 billion in support of Federal contracts, with 71.8 percent ($937.8 million) going to small businesses, 18 percent ($241million) going to firms socially and economically disadvantaged, 13.9 percent ($261.1 million) to woman-owned small businesses and 8.6 percent ($112.4 million) to veteran-owned small businesses.

The audit focuses on a five-year trend analysis in using small businesses by sampling contracts with small business subcontracting plans, subcontract reporting, outreach and mentoring. Reviews cover federal, municipal and commercial procurement and contractual activity as it relates to utilizing small business in support of delivering CH2M HILL projects.

In addition to providing subcontracting opportunities to small businesses, CH2M HILL is an official member of Mentor Protégé programs through the U.S. departments of Defense, Energy, and Homeland Security, and the Environmental Protection Agency and SBA.

As a member company, CH2M HILL provides formal mentoring to a number of firms including Agviq, LLC, Richard Brady and Associates, E2 Consulting and Environmental Design International, Crystal Management Consulting and Radin Consulting. Through these long-term relationships, CH2M HILL is able to help enhance the capabilities of these small businesses and prepare them to perform larger scopes of work.

Black Technology

A virtual spokesperson for black technology, BlackEngineer aspires to serve as leading news and information provider on the advancements in black technology with deep insights into black engineering, black entrepreneurs, black education, and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). In fact, BlackEngineer is one of the very few to promote the achievements of black technology. The Black engineer of the year awards (BEYA) is one of our successful ventures to promote black technology, progress and achievements made in black technology, and the sentiments of the Black community in the US, the UK, Caribbean, and Africa.

Black Entrepreneurs

Black technology entrepreneurs are increasingly providing the horsepower that drives the global economy. Over the last two decades, black entrepreneurs have created more jobs, and contributed much more to the economic expansion of the Black community as a whole, than any black pastor or politician. Black entrepreneurs are taking risks and building businesses that generate economic growth and increase prosperity in underserved areas, as more minority-owned and minority-focused businesses emerge, willing to serve the financial needs of Black entrepreneurs. US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine's annual list of Top Black Technology Entrepreneurs reflects the expanding scope of leading Black entrepreneurs in information technology, homeland security, and defense.
