Major companies and federal agencies were honored at the Most Admired Companies Awards Dinner at Temple University. The event concluded the Engineering Deans’ Summit: Partnering thru Diversity to Address the Grand Challenges Symposium.
Companies was chosen based on a survey completed by hundreds of respondents that consists of 64 questions given to Hispanic, Native American, Asian, black, and other employees in science, technology, engineering, and math- related (STEM) industries, as well as, a sample group of non-technical professionals.
Many of the companies acknowledged that recruiting women and minorities, only to see them walk out of the door within a few years is a loss of investments and opportunity. Retaining promising employees is just as important as recruiting them. These honorees represent companies that are moving beyond simply acquiring a diverse work force and calling it quits: the survey shows that many employers are successfully managing, embracing, and cultivating a diverse work environment. Minority employees give their employers improved marks on managing diversity and being fair.
A virtual spokesperson for black technology, BlackEngineer aspires to serve as leading news and information provider on the advancements in black technology with deep insights into black engineering, black entrepreneurs, black education, and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). Black technology entrepreneurs are increasingly providing the horsepower that drives the global economy. Over the last two decades, black entrepreneurs have created more jobs, and contributed much more to the economic expansion of the Black community as a whole, than any black pastor or politician. Black entrepreneurs are taking risks and building businesses that generate economic growth and increase prosperity in underserved areas, as more minority-owned and minority-focused businesses emerge, willing to serve the financial needs of Black entrepreneurs. US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine's annual list of Top Black Technology Entrepreneurs reflects the expanding scope of leading Black entrepreneurs in information technology, homeland security, and defense.
