Berkeley College is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas L. Thomas, PhD, as Senior Vice President for Student Success in the newly established Office for Student Success. In this role, he will oversee the offices of Student Development and Campus Life, Career Services, Residential Life, Counseling Services, and Athletics.

“Dr. Thomas has the experience and commitment needed for Berkeley College to succeed in this new responsibility,” said Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD. “His leadership will ensure that Berkeley College continues to be student-focused through supportive services and special programs designed to assist our students in their efforts to get a career focused education, earn a degree, and obtain a job in the market place.”

“Our goal is to have each and every student feel connected to his or her college life experience at Berkeley,” said Dr. Thomas.  “Establishing the Office for Student Success recognizes the commitment of Berkeley College to the importance of the student-centered environment here.”

The Office for Student Success ensures opportunities for student engagement through both traditional activities like sports and student government programs, as well as areas which may be new for many students.  For example, these include participating in learning communities, career skills development, leadership training, and other activities designed for personal growth.

Dr. Thomas most recently served Berkeley College as Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life. In this role, he provided leadership, vision and management for all student development programs, including athletics, residence life and counseling services.

Dr. Thomas has published several articles on topics related to student development and diversity. He holds a PhD in Higher Education/Organizational Sciences and an MSE in Educational Administration from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, and a BA in History from Washburn University in Topeka, KS.

A leader in business education for 79 years, Berkeley College maintains an enrollment of more than 8,000 students, including 665 international students in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree programs. The College has two New York campuses in Midtown Manhattan and White Plains, an Extension Center in Lower Manhattan in the Wall Street area; four New Jersey campuses located in Woodland Park (formerly West Paterson), Paramus, Woodbridge, and Newark; and Berkeley College Online.

Concentrations are offered in more than 20 career fields, and all campuses are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The College’s website address is www.BerkeleyCollege.edu

Black Technology

A virtual spokesperson for black technology, BlackEngineer aspires to serve as leading news and information provider on the advancements in black technology with deep insights into black engineering, black entrepreneurs, black education, and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). In fact, BlackEngineer is one of the very few to promote the achievements of black technology. The Black engineer of the year awards (BEYA) is one of our successful ventures to promote black technology, progress and achievements made in black technology, and the sentiments of the Black community in the US, the UK, Caribbean, and Africa.

Black Entrepreneurs

Black technology entrepreneurs are increasingly providing the horsepower that drives the global economy. Over the last two decades, black entrepreneurs have created more jobs, and contributed much more to the economic expansion of the Black community as a whole, than any black pastor or politician. Black entrepreneurs are taking risks and building businesses that generate economic growth and increase prosperity in underserved areas, as more minority-owned and minority-focused businesses emerge, willing to serve the financial needs of Black entrepreneurs. US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine's annual list of Top Black Technology Entrepreneurs reflects the expanding scope of leading Black entrepreneurs in information technology, homeland security, and defense.
