Metro Trenton/Princeton, N.J.-- In his keynote address at the 24th annual conference of The Granville Academy, Vernon Jordan, icon of the civil rights movement and influential political insider, began by saying, "Bill Granville didn't invite me here today. He told me to be here."

Jordan followed his remarks on the importance of giving back, with comments on his life story; from his beginnings in Atlanta, GA., when he worked as chauffeur to former mayor Robert Maddox to save enough money for college, to law school and his subsequent rise to national prominence. Currently, Jordan is a Senior Managing Director of Lazard Freres and Company, LLC, one of the world's largest financial advisory and asset management firms.

The mission of Granville Academy is to provide primarily inner-city youth in grades 8 through 12 with fundamental skills in business, finance, science and engineering, and prepare them for the global marketplace as it is today, and as it is evolving in America and around the world.
