Looking for a mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or electrical engineering job? Your best bet is you will find one in Atlanta, Houston or Los Angeles, according to Jobfox's Top 10 Regions: Best Bets for Job Seekers.

Although mechanical engineering moved down five spots to No. 9 on Jobfox’s Top 25 Most Wanted US Professions list, and electrical engineering was down four spots to No. 14, Jobfox lists Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles among the top 10 regions for job-seeking engineers.

According to NaukriHub, an online job search and career development platform, the city of Atlanta has some of the leading engineering and architecture industries in the region. Among them: Cox Communication, Georgia Power, Operational Security Systems, Kiewit, and Mirant.

"Mirant is one of the best energy companies in Atlanta,” according to information posted on NaukriHub. “Jobs in Mirant are available for various engineering positions including mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, and chemical engineers."

With every aspect of energy currently under pressure, experts predict chemical engineers will be offered more opportunities in chemical companies such as Dow, DuPont and GE.

In June 2008, AeA (American Electronics Association), the nation’s largest technology trade association, ranked Houston second among US cities in engineering employment, based on a report which confirmed Houston remains critical for the engineering services industry.

Plus, five of the six super major energy companies in the world:  Exxon-Mobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell Oil, and Chevron are among the largest employers in the region (besides the federal government). All of them large employers with opportunities for technical positions, engineering jobs, and more.

Over on America’s west coast, Northrop Grumman Corp., Boeing Co., AT&T Inc., and biotechnology pioneer, Amgen Inc. are some of the largest employers in the Los Angeles region.

Jobfox's report reflects the most wanted US professions during a 120-day period ending October 28. The rankings are based on employer job postings that were initiated and remain open over the 120-day period.

Jobfox definitions: Chemical engineering: professionals who apply and use chemical engineering principles, including the development and production of industrial chemicals and processes; Mechanical engineering: analyze, design or manufacture of mechanical systems, including maintenance of these systems; and Electrical engineering is design of electrical systems or complex electronic circuits within a structure, facility or power-generating environment.
