Nine months after Ty Taborn, director of educational programs for Career Communications Group's charitable arm, was sworn in to practice as a student attorney, he walked across the stage as one of the 2019 graduates of University of Baltimore School of Law.
The event "was a joyous moment" for Ty's family and friends, as he shook hands with Kurt Schmoke, president of the University of Baltimore (UB). Schmoke served as mayor of Baltimore from 1987-1999. Prior to joining UB, Schmoke was dean of the Howard University School of Law.
Ty joined Baltimore-based Career Communications Group (CCG) shortly after graduating with a master's degree in education from the University of Maryland. During his tenure, he led successful campus campaigns that showcased science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career opportunities. Ty took a sabbatical to do a Juris Doctor (JD) Degree.
Craig Thompson, a Venable LLP partner who led the 100-year old law firm's inclusion and diversity initiatives, called Ty's achievements "Awesome!" in a string of congratulatory messages last summer.
Well-wishers included Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) winners Freeman Hrabowski, president of The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and Lydia W. Thomas, a retired chief executive of Noblis.
"There is so little good news these days," said the 2003 BEYA winner. "I can't tell you how delighted I am. Please give Ty my best wishes. Bill and I are very proud of him."
And so say all of us in the extended CCG-BEYA family!
