The Toledo Blade reported Tuesday that top executives of General Motors (GM) paid a visit to the automaker’s Toledo Transmission Plant to talk to employees about the facility’s recent incidents of racism and accusations of workplace misconduct.
There are no press releases on the company's website, but remarking on the symbolic visit, Toledo Blade writer Jon Chavez said that GM company chairman and CEO Mary Barra, accompanied by GM Global Head of Manufacturing Alicia Boler Davis, held two sessions with the plant’s 1,722 workers in their 2½-hour visit.
Boler Davis is the 2018 Black Engineer of the Year. She received her award from Linda Gooden, the 2006 Black Engineer of the Year, who was elected to GM's board of directors in February 2015.
Following the nooses and 'whites-only' signs at the Toledo plant, GM offered a $25,000 reward for information. On Tuesday, the Blade reported that the president of UAW Local 14, which represents workers at Toledo Transmission, confirmed that racism was discussed during the unannounced visit.
“They said they have no tolerance, and if you see something, say something. They said they want to catch whoever is doing this so they can put a stop to it,” Mr. Earl said.
