North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, the No. 1 producer of engineering degrees awarded to African Americans, now counts its online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program among the top universities nationwide. According to the Best Online Bachelors in Information Technology list from Study.com, N.C. A&T ranked No. 10 on a list of 24 colleges led by George Mason University.
“We are excited about this recognition as it further confirms the quality and impact of our programs,” said Abdellah Ahmidouch, academic dean of N.C. A&T's College of Science and Technology in a statement. “It is our goal to continue developing innovative approaches to STEM teaching and learning to prepare the next generation of science and technology leaders.”
Study.com, an online learning platform that reaches over 15 million students with video-based online courses, said they took several factors into account, such as the type of degrees offered, available concentrations, online learning support tools, and financial aid help.
"An IT degree is the perfect choice for those who want to pursue a career in the information technology field, like as an IT project manager, software developer, or database administrator," they wrote on their website.
Other universities on the list include the University of Michigan - Flint, Oregon Institute of Technology, SUNY at Albany, University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth, Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
North Carolina A&T State University's citation says the college "boasts both an online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree and an online Master of Science in Information Technology degree. The online BS in Information Technology has a unique emphasis on mainframe education, while the MS degree allows for specialization of your choice in web technologies, database management, and computer security among others. NC A&T will be there every step of the way as you earn your online IT degree with a dedicated program coordinator who can help you select classes, access services, and graduate on time."
According to N.C. A&T, the College of Science and Technology offers an undergraduate degree online with six specializations in computer networking, mobile application development, computer forensic investigation, consulting, cloud architecture and high-performance computing.
Additionally, for students interested in pursuing advanced knowledge in the field, the online graduate degree offers concentrations in computer networking and communications, computer security, web technologies, digital media technologies and database management.
