In a 2017 interview, USBE Online asked Jem Pagán, president of Blusky Consulting, to predict trends in digital jobs and how STEM professionals can take advantage of the opportunities.
“Those questions drove the list of my 10 top careers,” Pagán said. “My research demonstrates a lot of adoption is taking place right now and for the next seven years."
Pagán's top careers included data scientist, computer scientist, mathematician, business process analyst, wireless communication, semiconductor/sensor developer, gaming, augmented reality, robotics, and nanotechnology.
“There’s a shortage of qualified professionals because they’re no longer confined to specialized areas,” Pagán added.
He advised every knowledge worker to use science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) to understand how the world works and to solve problems. All STEM fields are closely related and build on each other, Pagán said.
A new LinkedIn report, which measures skills listed on the LinkedIn profiles of people who are getting hired at the highest rates in cities with 100,000 LinkedIn members, came up with a list of top skills employers are looking for in 2019.
We found 10 that matched Pagan's predictions in 2017.
