In an email celebrating the 80th anniversary of the organization, Dr. Michael Lomax, President and CEO of United Negro College Fund (UNCF), reflected on the organization's impact.
UNCF is known for its famous tagline, "A Mind is A Terrible Thing to Waste," and has been providing access to higher education for African American and other underrepresented students for eight decades.
This milestone in educational equity across the United States is a testament to the commitment and dedication of supporters, partners, and those who believe in UNCF's motto.
Lomax highlighted that the organization has been working tirelessly to ensure that talented young individuals have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and unlock their full potential.
Through scholarships, grants, and various educational programs, UNCF has empowered countless students to achieve their academic goals and become community leaders. Education has the power to break down barriers and create a brighter future for all.
Lomax expressed immense pride in UNCF's accomplishments but also recognized that much work still needs to be done.
"We remain steadfast in our mission to support students on their journey to success. Let us renew our commitment to education, empowerment, and equality together. Every contribution, whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness, makes a difference in the lives of deserving students," Lomax said.
UNCF asked supporters to commemorate UNCF's anniversary by sending a congratulatory eCard to celebrate a graduate, honor a family, or recognize someone who has made a difference.
