Nearing its 20th year, the Women of Color STEM Conference launched its official hashtag #STEMisagirlthing
The #Stemisagirlthing campaign celebrates science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), encourages young women to enter STEM fields, and pays homage to STEM professionals who continuously break barriers in the industry.
"#Stemisagirlthing is an empowering hashtag that allows women to celebrate what they love and share their pride in STEM with their social media communities," said CEO and publisher of Women of Color Magazine Tyrone Taborn.
"With this hashtag, we hope to build awareness of the need for women in STEM and to motivate girls to follow an educational path in the field."
The Women of Color STEM Conference brings women together to celebrate the STEM industry. This annual conference is attended by STEM industry professionals, recruiters, speakers, and trainers, along STEM students seeking encouragement and guidance.
Since its 1996 origin, the conference has been paving the way for the advancement of women in STEM fields, where they are traditionally underrepresented.
Co-hosted by Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, and General Dynamics Corporation, the 2015 Women of Color STEM Conference will take place at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan from October 15-17.
