STEM City Kansas City has been chosen as one of the 2023 Broadband Communities Cornerstone Award recipients. The award was given during the Broadband Communities Summit's Cornerstone Awards Luncheon in Houston, Texas.
According to reports, more than 1,000 network operators, service providers, technologists, suppliers, property owners, managers, and suppliers attended the 2023 Broadband Communities Summit, which is held annually by Broadband Communities magazine. The BBC aims to promote the deployment of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) and Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP) while also providing information on practical solutions available to consumers.
The judges at BBC recognized the impressive work of STEM City Kansas City in bringing high-speed internet service to a district in Kansas City. They achieved this by creating their own network and training students from aSTEAM Village to install the fiber for users and manage the network.
aSTEAM Village is a non-profit organization that aims to involve students, families, and educators in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) fields. This is to help them prepare for their careers and education, and equip them to participate in today and tomorrow's 21st-century economies.
STEM City Kansas City is a collaboration between aSTEAM Village and Career Communications Group. It utilizes the successful best practices and proven content of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards and Women of Color in STEM Conferences, which both operate in digital twin environments.
STEM City Kansas is a part of STEM City USA Metaverse, which is a digital platform where individuals and organizations can participate and contribute towards bridging social, economic, health, and education gaps.
William Wells Jr., executive director at aSTEAM Village, announced on LinkedIn in December 2022 that the first building in STEM City Kansas City was now open.
“We will be sending out VIP invitations to businesses and service providers to establish their presence in the STEM City Kansas City Metaverse in December 2022, ” Wells wrote. “And we will open up the application process for vendors, artists, and educational institutions to have a presence in STEM City Kansas City in January 2023.”
