Norris C. Mitchell
Supervisor
Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWARSYSCEN), Charleston
Norris Mitchell came to engineering in his Junior year in high school, through the Minority Introduction to Engineering Program at Georgia Institute of Technology. Later, as he struggled with the University of Southern California's undergraduate engineering curriculum, the assistant dean suggested that he change his major. Instead, Mitchell buckled down and worked harder and graduated in 1985 with a B.Sc. in electrical engineering. Joining SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston that year, he worked his way steadily up, becoming a leader in the Command and a much sought-after subject matter expert in video teleconferencing. His work has contributed greatly to making SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston's expertise more accessible to all government agencies and more competitive in state-of-the-art engineering technology markets. Mr. Mitchell was given a Greater Charleston Area Federal Employee of the Year Award in 1998.
