Anthony N. Okafor, P.E.
Dallas District Bridge Engineer
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)

Anthony Okafor is from Nigeria and was 16 when civil war broke out in his homeland. His family fled their home in the North leaving everything behind, and Okafor joined the military, distinguishing himself in service and attaining the rank of lieutenant. After the war, he completed high school and received his certificate of engineering from a two-year college, before making a brave leap to the U.S., with a plane ticket and $600, eventually receiving a B.Sc. in civil engineering from Purdue.

At TxDOT, Okafor has developed bridge design modifications that enable existing bridges to handle the structural load of more lanes, eliminating the need for new bridges and saving the taxpayers millions. He is an active member of the Dallas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering and has done volunteer work with students in area high schools for many years.
