Renata Spinks, the 2020 BEYA Stars and Stripes Senior Executive Service Member of the Year, has been elevated to acting chief information security officer at the U.S. Marine Corps. Prior, she has served as acting senior information security officer and cyber technology officer for the U.S. Marine Corps.
In this role, Ms. Spinks leads an extensive portfolio focused on information technology, policy, investments, cyber operations (defensive and offensive) as well as organizational leadership for the Marine Corps Network and Information Enterprise.
Early in her career, Ms. Spinks served in the US Army 44th MEDCOM 28th Combat Support Hospital and is a decorated combat veteran. She then attended college as a student-athlete and embarked on a federal career in the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Office of Acquisition.
There, she developed a love for cybersecurity after serving in a supporting role to intelligence and law enforcement specializing in human behavior analysis for human trafficking and child exploitation investigations. After more than four years she joined the Department of Treasury and Millennium Challenge Corporation as a special assistant to the director. Ms. Spinks moved to the Internal Revenue Service as an executive in March 2016.
No stranger to using technology to revolutionize institutions, moving them forward innovatively with data-driven decisions she has also run nonprofit organizations as a managing director of Rising Footsteps and CEO of CyberFi Industries.
In 2018, she became Cyber Technology Officer of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command.

Ms. Spinks attended Saint Augustine’s College (2004-2007) achieving Presidential Scholar honors with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and is one of its 2018 Top 45 Under 45 Honorees. She holds a master’s degree in technology management and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Cybersecurity at Capitol Technology University.
This February she was a cybersecurity speaker at the all-digital BEYA STEM Conference.
