The Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) community is over 10,000 strong and offers K-12 and college students, career professionals, and employers unmatched opportunities to celebrate excellence and showcase STEM career opportunities.
No doubt about it, STEM fields are changing at a rapid pace. But just how are technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), cloud platforms, drone tech, machine learning, open-source, and virtual reality (VR) changing STEM? Which careers are going to be hot by the time the next generation of STEM graduates hit the streets?
Those were just a few of the questions USBE Online asked tech guru Jem Pagán in a recent interview.
“Those questions drove the list of my top 10 careers,” Pagán said. “My research demonstrates a lot of adoption is taking place right now and for the next seven years.”
Pagán’s areas to watch were AI, AR, natural language processing, scientific computing, game development, animation, business process analytics, computer science, data science, mathematics, wireless communication, semiconductor/sensor development, robotics, and nanotechnology.
“There’s a shortage of qualified professionals because they’re no longer confined to specialized areas,” Pagán added.
He advised every knowledge worker to use STEM to understand how the world works and to solve problems. All STEM fields are closely related and build on each other, Pagán said.
