Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed a leading businessman and Black Engineer Award winner to serve on the University Systems of Maryland Board of Regents.
Robert L. Wallace, founder of Bithgroup Technologies, Bithenergy services, and EntreTeach Learning was appointed for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2018.
Bithgroup is a minority business enterprise headquartered in Maryland. The technology provider partners with IT multinationals such as IBM, Microsoft, Avaya, and Northrop Grumman, Bithgroup states.
Wallace’s economic development consulting services have supported local community and business leaders charged with accelerating economic growth.
“I am honored to be appointed as a Regent for the University Systems of Maryland Board of Regents. Looking forward to serving and helping with moving the system’s needle forward,” he said in a statement.
Wallace has served as chair for the Maryland Information Technology Board, the Governor’s Advanced Technology Commission, Small Business Task Force, Minority Business Task Force, the City of Baltimore Mayor’s Coalition of Supplier Diversity and Inclusion, and chair of The President's RoundTable, an organization made up of companies that strive to improve the community through small, medium and large businesses working together.
According to the Board of Regents website, the 17-member body, including one student, governs the University System of Maryland.
The regents oversee the system's academic, administrative, and financial operations. They also appoint the USM chancellor and the presidents of the system's 12 institutions. Regents serve on the board without compensation.
