On March 21, High-Tech Sunday hosts Krystal A. Porter, a lead engineer and solutions architect at Leidos for the Airborne Reconnaissance Low-Enhanced (ARL-E) program, to talk about The Digital Divide.
At a time when digital information is more critical than ever, Career Communications Group (CCG) launched a podcast called High-Tech Sunday. CCG's High-Tech Sunday showcases talent in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through the lens of spiritual philosophies. This February, Krystal received the Dr. Wanda M. Austin Legacy Award at the BEYA STEM Conference. Austin was a leading architect for the nation's national security space programs.
Currently, Krystal is responsible for developing and driving new technologies into customer-focused solutions to secure data. She leads and serves in multi-disciplinary teams and has supported multiple projects within Leidos, a defense, aviation, information technology, and biomedical research company that provides scientific, engineering, systems integration, and technical services.
Krystal has received the Leidos Achievement Award for Excellence in Program Performance – Technology, Leidos Agility Award, and is the Jimmy Doolittle Educational Fellow at the Leidos operations center for outstanding current/future armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology.
Outside of her corporate efforts, Krystal works to ensure that others can excel in their career as she could do from military enlisted, conversion to an officer and then working up through the corporate ranks to lead engineer. She is dedicated to teaching family members and younger individuals in her hometown of Chicago, IL, by successfully equipping them with the skills and knowledge to enter into STEM career fields. She coaches them on educational choices and how to get into successful career paths.
Krystal serves in an informal advisory role for the Rush Hospital REACH (Rush Education and Career Hub) program. She also serves in a voluntary role as a deputy assistant technical reviewer with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). Krystal is also a chief financial officer of the Black Cybersecurity Association.
Earlier in her career, Krystal was a signal communication and psychological operations officer for the U.S. Army. Krystal holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago and various professional industry IT certifications. </p
