The Emerging Tech Talent Scholarship is a Greater Washington Partnership effort to equip students with skills and help fill the region's most in-demand technological jobs, such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and software development.
Since 2021, the Greater Washington Partnership has provided over 390 scholarships for undergraduate students across the Baltimore and Richmond region. In 2023 and 2022, the Emerging Tech Scholarship Day was hosted at Capital One Arena by Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
On April 26th, 2024, the Greater Washington Partnership will host an Emerging Tech Talent Scholarship student event at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills Center and Amazon's HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia.
Over 40 students from 14 leading colleges in Maryland, DC, and Virginia will have the opportunity to network and receive expert insights into tech-related careers from the region's top employers, such as Amazon, Capital One, and Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
Student scholarship recipients are from Bowie State University, the University of the District of Columbia, George Mason University, Georgetown University, the University of Maryland Global Campus, Marymount University, Trinity Washington University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. ETT colleges not represented in student registrations include Howard University, Towson University, and Virginia Tech.
Featured speakers include Kathy Hollinger, CEO of Greater Washington Partnership; Simon Morrison, senior public policy manager, AI and privacy Policy, Amazon; Carter Bristow, associate software engineer, Capital One; and Andrew McNeill, vice president, Esports, Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
The Greater Washington Partnership is the first-of-its-kind nonprofit alliance of the region's most influential and leading employers across industry sectors in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. According to the Partnership, there are approximately 135,000 tech and tech-adjacent job openings in the Baltimore-Richmond corridor – double the number in Silicon Valley. The organization leverages its collective experiences, resources, and assets to address critical issues, including skills and talent, regional mobility, infrastructure, and inclusive growth.
