The Hampton University School of Engineering & Technology has announced that it is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an all-day virtual experience on Friday, April 16.
“Even though we cannot celebrate the School of Engineering & Technology’s 25th Anniversary together in person, I am happy that Hampton University can host such a program that will provide education and important networking for students, alumni, and engineering professionals from all over the United States,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
The anniversary event will include special presentations and workshops regarding topics such as artificial intelligence, autonomy, augmented reality in architecture, aviation, and engineering, and the future of biotechnology.
Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Joyce Shirazi, seen on the cover of US Black Engineer magazine's 2019 dean's issue, also spoke of her excitement.
“We have a truly storied history: students, faculty, alumni, and a whole host of others will be able to hear the wonderful stories of how we have arrived at one of the top HBCU engineering schools in the country,” the dean said in a statement,
Hampton University is one of the fifteen ABET-accredited schools of engineering at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), which participate actively in workshops, seminars, and networking at US Black Engineer magazine's annual BEYA STEM Conference.
In February 2020, Hampton University students Jakari Harris and Michael Lawrence (main photo) were awarded the Student-Athlete Award at the BEYA STEM Conference Student Leadership Award Dinner in Washington, DC. The Hampton University Engineering Design Team also earned the first-ever award during the 3rd Annual AMIE Design Challenge at the BEYA STEM Conference.
