There are five main award science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) categories, including professional, academic, outstanding achievement, Stars & Stripes, innovation, and student leadership.
Modern-Day Technology Leaders and Science Trailblazers are recognized for their contributions in the workplace at the Technology Recognition Lunch. They are selected by their employers or team members. The Student Leadership Dinner features STEM students, who not only meet the demands of their curriculum but also overcome challenges.
ABET-accredited engineering schools at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) graduate a substantial portion on the nation's African American engineers. Fifteen engineering deans host the HBCU Engineering Deans' Breakfast where various awards are presented. They include Legacy Awards, Educational Leadership, and Student Leadership awards, the College-Level and K-12 Promotion of Education, and the Deans’ Award.
Many call the Saturday's BEYA gala 'Oscars of the STEM Industry' and awards given at this venue include:
