The Spelman and Morehouse College Glee Clubs’ presented the 96th annual Christmas Carol Concert series recently. For more than 75 years, the holiday special has a been a staple in the Atlanta community and beyond. This year's event highlighted the history of the Christmas Carol Concert, glee clubs, music selections and more. It also featured a Q&A, giving the audience an opportunity to gain insight from conductors and student leaders.
The three-night concert event was held at Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on Friday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 4, as well as at Spelman College’s Sisters Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 3. The concerts are accessible via the YouTube channels of both historically Black college and university (HBCU) institutions.
Traditionally marking the start of the Christmas season for Atlanta residents, these glee clubs perform together (and individually) featuring traditional carols and contemporary-style interpretations of holiday music.
