Selected students who have gone above and beyond their educational commitment in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) received awards at the 2020 BEYA STEM Conference. The event took place at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
Each year, the conference brings professionals and students together to share their experiences and career information, while networking with attendees and participating in seminars that explore every facet of STEM career paths. The goal of the BEYA Conference is to create connections between students, educators, and professionals while facilitating partnerships with local STEM resources.
The Student Leadership Award serves to recognize students who are striving to make outstanding contributions to the varied aspects of STEM education and who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteering while learning.
The Student Research Award recognizes students who are striving to make excellent contributions through research and presentations advancing science and their university.
The Student Community Award honors students who are striving to make outstanding contributions to STEM through volunteering on campus and engaging with the local community.
The Student Academic Award is presented to students who uphold the principals of scholarship in a positive way.
The Student-Athlete Award recognizes the drive and determination of talented students who perform in the classroom and sports.
During the three-day event, students attended the career fair to meet top employers, take advantage of resources designed to enhance job search, and get tools for a successful STEM career.
Seminars and workshops present workforce topics including career advancement, diversity, and specialized industry updates. The Career Fair links engineers, scientists, business professionals and students with employers and educators.
Other events at BEYA included the HBCU Innovation hall, presenting an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research. The Pre-College Program connected the public with organizations that are working to grow the STEM pipeline and build the digital workforce.
