During the 38th annual BEYA STEM Conference, Technical Sergeant De'Marcus Shanklin, who is stationed at the headquarters of the United States Air Force Recruiting Service, presented the student leadership award at the Recognition and Legacy Awards event hosted by the engineering deans of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The ceremony honored 2024 distinguished individuals, including research and development leaders, promising scientists, and student leaders.
Jabari Bowen has had a keen interest in all things digital from an early age and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering and cyber science at the United States Air Force Academy.

His recent internship with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) fueled his passion for space and its crucial role in national security.
Jabari aspires to work with the NRO and the United States Space Force as an engineer responsible for satellite operations and safeguarding critical technologies.
He also plans to pursue a graduate degree in hardware security and digital system integrity to bring a heightened focus to security and survivability.
Recently, Jabari served as a summer cyber instructor, leading his fellow cadets in an introductory cyberware course, and he has received several awards and recognitions, including the Cadet Summer Research Program award and placement on the Dean's Academic Merit List and the Commandant's Military Merit List.
In his acceptance speech, Jabari acknowledged the Legacy Award winners, HBCU engineering deans, and BEYA attendees, citing a quote that is engraved on a prominent monument on the Air Force campus: "Man's flight through life is sustained by the power of his knowledge today."
Jabari urged his fellow students to embrace lifelong learning and to master problem-solving and communication skills, using a network of people, processes, and technology to harness the power of knowledge.
Jabari expressed gratitude to his mother, the Air Force Academy department head, and the U.S. Air Force for their support in his personal and professional development. His ultimate aim is to positively impact the Air Force mission.
