Thanksgiving kicked off the end-of-year holidays in America, and you probably caught discounts as early as Thursday night or "doorbusters" on Black Friday. If you're still looking for deals, today's Cyber Monday and there are tons of devices on sale. Smartphones, video game consoles, MP3 players, laptops and printers are just a few of the top buys for students. According to a recent College Explorer study, 70 percent of college students rely on their laptops for research and coursework and 47 percent use them for classroom note-taking.
More than 30 percent of tablet-owning students also regularly use them for work/research, and 37 percent for reading electronic textbooks. At least 13 percent of students report using their smartphone for note-taking.
No doubt about it, technology is facilitating academic chores but "even with the advancements technology offers, career fairs should still be at the top of the list" says LiveCareer, a technology-driven company committed to helping people find jobs. "There will be no greater opportunity to start networking and connecting with the right people."
That's why students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields attend the career fair at the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Global Competitiveness Conference, co-hosted by Career Communications Group (CCG). During the three-day event, students land jobs with employers focused on artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, data science, drone technology, machine learning, open-source, and virtual reality.
If CCG's Foundation for Educational Development Inc. (FEDI) can reach its goal, it will enroll more students to experience the BEYA Conference in February. Here's where you come in:
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday—when people around the world donate to global causes. #GivingTuesday is a day when you can give a student the gift of attending the upcoming BEYA Conference, scheduled for February 13-15, 2020 in Washington, DC. Giving tomorrow ensures that early planning can start for STEM students without the resources to attend.
With additional support, FEDI enrolled 1,600 students last year. This year student interest is at an all-time high, but not every student who wants to attend can get to BEYA this year. Your help is needed.
A tax-deductible donation to The Foundation for Educational Development, Inc. (FEDI) supports the BEYA Scholarship Program to enroll deserving students in the BEYA STEM College Program. A donation of $500 provides accommodation, travel, meals, and registration at the 34th Annual BEYA STEM Conference in Washington, DC February 13, 2020.
