Please hurry. Time is running out for you to help showcase a trailblazing engineer. Nominations for the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) close on August 31, 2019. That means you only have four weeks to make your choice, and show your support.
The award categories in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields include community service, most promising engineer/scientist, outstanding technical contribution, research leadership, student leadership, and technical sales.
The annual BEYA STEM Conference is designed to create a network of inspirational role models who promote better access to STEM careers and raise the profile of organizations as employers of choice. The recognition bestowed is not just for the individual, but for the collective potential STEM workforce of the future.
There are two groups of awards. Peer-reviewed awards go through the rigor of a selection panel review to determine which candidates are granted awards.
The second group of award applications, the outstanding achievement awards, are employer recommendations for an award. These applications are not subjected to review by a selection panel.
In all categories of peer-reviewed awards, letters of recommendation from executives within the hierarchy of the nominee’s place of employment weigh heavily in the committee’s consideration of the impact of the nominee’s achievements.
Descriptions of the scope of the nominee’s responsibilities, the effect of the achievements on the company or facility, breadth of community outreach activities, and the effect on other minorities seeking science and technology careers are very important.
Letters describing responses by community leaders and other interested parties to the nominee’s activities and achievements also will be considered.
Nominations are due August 31st. Log in to complete an Application
Hosted by US Black Engineer magazine, the Council of Historically Black College and University Engineering Deans, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and Aerotek, the BEYA STEM Global Competitiveness Conference will take place February 13-15, 2020, at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
On the agenda of the three-day event in the nation’s capital is the BEYA Gala, where the 2020 Black Engineer of the Year Award, the BEYA STEM Conference’s top award, will be presented.
The BEYA Selection Committee will meet this fall to review nominations for the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) employee recognition program, now in its thirty-fifth year.
