DAPCEP has announced the appointment of Deputy Director Michelle Reaves to the role of Interim Executive Director.

Michelle Reaves has been the deputy director of DAPCEP for 5 years.

As the chief architect of several new DAPCEP initiatives including the very popular Explorers Program (Pre-K – 3rd grade), STEM+M Day @Michigan Science Center, GEAR-UP student programming, and the bi-annual DAPCEP Student Showcase, Mrs. Reaves is the ideal candidate to lead DAPCEP through the upcoming leadership transition, the announcement said.

“Michelle is the ideal candidate to lead DAPCEP’s efforts to make programming more student focused and filled with experiences vital to Michigan career and entrepreneurship opportunities.” says Stephen C. Lewis, DAPCEP Board Chair.

With summer programs in full swing, the celebration of DAPCEP’s 40th Anniversary, and Fall 2016 programming in development, DAPCEP will continue to provide high-quality, STEMM-immersive programs to the students of metro Detroit.

The Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) is a non-profit, Detroit-based organization whose mission is to generate excitement and prepare under-represented minority students for careers in engineering and science.

The University of Detroit Mercy offers Saturday morning programs on five weekends in the fall and spring.

Approximately 700 students in the 4th through 12th grades take courses in math, science, computers and engineering.

The College of Engineering & Science and DAPCEP have partnered for more than thirty years educating hundreds of students from Detroit.
