Congratulations to Aeriel Murphy-Leonard, Ph.D. (left in group photo) who posted a historic photo on LinkedIn with four black women who graduated with doctorates in engineering from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Murphy-Leonard, an NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate at U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, according to her LinkedIn page, is an aerospace engineering grad. Other people in the photo are Ciara Sivels (photo inset) the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences at the University of Michigan, and Autumn Jade Bullard.

“On Friday, four black women graduated with Ph.D.’s in Engineering from the University of Michigan! #blackgirlmagic University of Michigan,” Murphy-Leonard writes.

Women make up 50 percent of the college’s leadership at Michigan Engineering, Nicole Casal Moore, media relations and research news director, said on the phone.

Correction to last paragraph: women make up 50% of the College’s leadership, not the faculty.
