The Center for Career Development at Morgan State University is hosting the Fall Career & Internship Fair on October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This event is for current students and alumni who are seeking full-time, part-time, internship, seasonal positions, or graduate school programs.

The fair will take place at the University Student Center and is an excellent opportunity for job seekers to connect with top employers and advance their careers.

The Office of Career Services at North Carolina A&T State University will be hosting a similar event for students, employers, faculty, and alumni on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Graduate School Fair will be held for individuals interested in pursuing graduate school (Master of Science/Master of Arts, Ph.D.).

Historically Black college and university (HBCU) students are welcome to apply for one of the 20 Fellow positions available in the 2024 Milken Institute HBCU Strategic Initiative cohort.

The program provides a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders, gain valuable experience, and develop skills. The deadline for applications is October 13.

The Milken Institute is a nonprofit and nonpartisan think tank dedicated to helping individuals achieve meaningful lives by providing access to resources that can help them create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

In an effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the business community, the Milken Institute has launched a strategic initiative that includes a competitive fellows program for students at HBCUs.

The Milken Institute HBCU Strategic Initiative aims to train the next generation of successful industry leaders who will transform the financial services industry.

The program is designed to equip fellows with the necessary knowledge, resources, and industry intelligence to succeed in asset management. To achieve this goal, fellows undergo rigorous coursework, modular training, and networking activities.

Miles Durant, a junior from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, was selected to join the first cohort of the Milken Institute HBCU Fellows program.

Durant, a marketing and supply management double major from Durham, North Carolina, is the only student from his university to participate in the program. He discovered this opportunity through two A&T alums who were family friends.

Durant advises that one should apply for all opportunities that come their way, as they may never know how these opportunities will turn out. After attending the first session, he realized the program’s prestige and was convinced that this opportunity would be life-changing for him.

As a Milken Institute HBCU Fellow, Durant anticipates networking and gaining a deeper understanding of the financial sector. This will help him navigate his professional career goals.

He is keen to learn more about institutional and personal finance, particularly in bridging the wealth gap, especially among the African-American community. Durant hopes to use his supply chain and marketing skills to meet consumer demands and operations.

Blair Smith, senior director of the Center for Financial Markets at the Milken Institute, notes that there will be significant progress towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in asset management only when there is an awareness and active recruitment of diverse, high-performing talent.

The Milken Institute HBCU Fellows Program aims to put that talent front and center. The benefit to students will be a higher degree of financial fluency, making them even more competitive candidates.
