HTC Vive raised the bar for virtual reality at CES 2018 last week with the new Vive Pro upgrade and Vive wireless adapter.

The new upgrades will enhance immersion, and the improved clarity means text and graphics all come into sharper view for virtual reality (VR) users in gaming, aviation, engineering, or medicine, who want the best display and audio.

HTC Corporation leads the virtual reality (VR) industry with Vive, a virtual reality platform with room-scale and true-to-life interactions.

“There’s a clear need in the VR market for a premium VR experience with high-resolution display, integrated audio and the best components available in a headset,” said Daniel O’Brien, U.S. Vive general manager.

“Vive Pro offers an upgrade for both VR enthusiasts and enterprises that want to utilize the best VR experience,” O’Brien said.

Vive Pro is a head-mounted display upgrade from Vive, built for virtual reality Vive Pro includes dual-organic light-emitting diode displays for a crisper picture resolution over the current Vive head-mounted display. Vive Pro also features integrated, high-performance headphones with a built-in amplifier to offer a heightened sense of presence and richer sound.

Vive Pro’s new head strap was built with enhanced comfort, including a sizing dial for a more balanced headset that decreases weight on the front of the headset. Additional improvements include dual microphones with active noise cancellation and dual front-facing cameras designed to empower developer creativity.

The Vive Wireless Adapter will be the first to market with a truly wireless virtual reality headset integration for both Vive and Vive Pro.

The Vive Wireless Adapter features Intel’s WiGig technology.

“Wireless VR has been on nearly every VR user’s wish list since the technology was unveiled,” said Frank Soqui, general manager Virtual Reality Group at Intel Corporation. “By collaborating with HTC to commercialize Intel’s WiGig technology, we will guarantee that wireless VR meets the most discerning quality bar for home users and business VR customers.”

HTC Vive costs $599.00. Included with your Vive kit are the Vive headset, two wireless controllers, base stations, link box, earbuds, Vive accessories, safety guide and warranty card. In addition, the company debuted improvements in how virtual reality users experience content through a redesign of Viveport VR and Vive Video.

The Vive ecosystem is built around virtual reality (VR) hardware supported by Vive X, an accelerator for VR and related technology start-ups;Viveport, an app store with the world’s first virtual reality subscription model that operates in more than 45 countries, and Vive Studios, its virtual reality content development and publishing initiative.
