Prairie View A&M University held its 142nd Spring Commencement Convocation on May 10-11. A total of 918 graduates were recognized, comprising 770 recipients of bachelor’s degrees, 134 recipients of graduate degrees, and 14 recipients of doctorate degrees.

The event honored graduates from PVAMU’s 11 colleges and schools. PVAMU President Tomikia P. LeGrande delivered the keynote address to the graduate students.

Phil Griffith, vice president of United Airlines’ Houston hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), delivered a powerful keynote address to the undergraduate students.

His words were filled with wisdom and encouragement, reminding the graduates of their potential and the rich legacy they are now a part of.

Griffith’s remarks were profound: “Prairie View A&M has a rich history of graduates who have excelled on the highest levels. You have now joined the ranks of the next generation of leaders to build on this tradition.”

He shared his views on the importance of team building, self-awareness, finding mentors from a broad range of places, career planning, innovation, providing solutions, sticking with one’s vision, and trusting your point of view. “Your teams, character, mentors, career plans, and perseverance will see you through,” he said.
