Dr. Victor McCrary is currently serving as the vice president for research and graduate programs at the University of the District of Columbia.

He has also held similar research leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Morgan State University, and the University of Tennessee.

Dr. McCrary is known for his innovative and transformative ideas in his field of work. In 2011, he was honored as Scientist of the Year at the BEYA STEM Conference.

During the 2024 BEYA STEM Conference, the Dr. McCrary Legacy Award was presented by Kathryn Graves Unger, the Environmental, Social, and Governance Vice President of Boston Scientific Corporation.

Angelys M. Cuello, a clinical engineer at Abbott, is making significant contributions to the cardiac rhythm management division at Abbott.

Despite facing numerous obstacles, she has excelled in her field and is developing life-changing technologies that help individuals and communities lead healthier lives.

She migrated to the United States with her family when she was 11 years old. She performed exceptionally well in high school and earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Cornell University. After graduation, she worked in the research and development of devices that help regulate heartbeats and reduce symptoms of heart failure.

Looking back at her academic journey, Angelys realized that being aware of the correct resources was critical for cultivating growth and progress.

She aspired to contribute to the efforts of pioneers in her field and is grateful for the opportunity to receive an education in the U.S. and work in life-improving technology.

She is immensely grateful to God, her loved ones, her family, and her team at Abbott for their unwavering support and for fostering growth and innovation.

She believes that her legacy is intertwined with Dr. Victor McCrary’s legacy and is proud to bring it forward.
