Tanya McCoy and her son Kevin McCoy Jr., along with Arifah Goodwin and her daughter Ericka Rogers, have joined the ranks of generational achievers continuing their legacy at Virginia State University.

The university held two commencement ceremonies on May 11, celebrating graduates from various colleges.

Former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder and Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott delivered keynote addresses.

Virginia State University experienced its highest enrollment of first-year students in school history, welcoming 1,443 students to the first-year class of 2027.

The university also announced a new bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, effective for fall 2024, and a new master’s degree in data analytics.
