On July 10, 2023, Nira Alice Madison passed away at the age of 89. She was the mother of Guy Madison, who previously worked as the Vice President at Career Communications from 1998 until 2004.

The visitation for Nira will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Bethel A.M.E. Church, located at 716 N Washington Avenue in Scranton, PA. The Homegoing service will follow at 11:00 AM on the same day and at the same location. Click here for more information.

Nira was a devoted mother and a respected community leader in her hometown of Scranton. She was born on November 5, 1933, to Paul V. Sr. and Alice Blue who had already passed away. Nira will be reunited with her husband, Roper E. Madison, as well as her siblings, Paul V. Blue Jr. and Wilma Bailey.

Nira was a proud graduate of Central High School and was a valuable member of the reunion planning committee. She even attended her 70-year class reunion. Nira was a lifelong learner and earned her Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, PA, at the age of 78.

She had a strong faith and served as the former organist, pianist, and Women of Bethel leader at her beloved Bethel AME church. Nira worked at Phamakon Labs for many years and cherished the friendships she made there. She had a warm and welcoming personality and never met a stranger.

Nira is survived by her children David (Judi), Jan Simmons (Bobby), Jeanne Davis (Walter), Guy (Chrischele), and Paul, as well as her beloved grandchildren DeMarcus and Devin Simmons, Chris Robinson, Nicole, Desirae, Gabrielle, Dreylon, and Matthew Madison, and her first great-grandchild Kairo Northern. She also leaves behind many loved ones from the Bailey and Blue families.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 15th, at 9:30 am, followed by a homecoming service at 11:00 am at Bethel AME Church at 716 N. Washington Avenue in Scranton. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall for a repass immediately after the recessional. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel AME Church or Sacred Heart Hospice.
