Nominations are open for the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA). The BEYA Selection Committee will meet this fall to review nominations for the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) employee recognition program, now in its thirty-fifth year.

Category awards include Career Achievement, Community Service, Educational Leadership – College-Level Promotion of Education, Lifetime Achievement, Most Promising Engineer/Scientist, Outstanding Technical Contribution, Professional Achievement, Research Leadership, Student Leadership, and Technical Sales and Marketing.

The deadline for nominations is August 31st. Click here to apply.

There are two groups of awards. Peer-reviewed awards go through the rigor of a selection panel review to determine which candidates are granted awards.

The second group of award applications, the outstanding achievement awards, are employer recommendations for an award. These applications are not subjected to review by a selection panel.

In all categories of peer-reviewed awards, letters of recommendation from executives within the hierarchy of the nominee’s place of employment weigh heavily in the committee’s consideration of the impact of the nominee’s achievements.

Descriptions of the scope of the nominee’s responsibilities, the effect of the achievements on the company or facility, breadth of community outreach activities, and the effect on other minorities seeking science and technology careers are very important.

Letters describing responses by community leaders and other interested parties to the nominee’s activities and achievements also will be considered.

Nominations are due August 31st. Log in to complete an Application

On the agenda of the three-day event in the nation’s capital is the BEYA Gala, where the 2020 Black Engineer of the Year Award, the BEYA STEM Conference’s top award, will be presented.
