No doubt about it, life is beginning over again this summer. For 8,000+ students in Atlantic City, there’s much to look forward to with eSports and live stream science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) broadcasts.

This week, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small announced a partnership with Pennsylvania-based Metro Esports to create a series of virtual reality (VR) competitions that will help encourage young people to pursue careers in technology.

“eSports is already the fastest growing sport in the world but more importantly it serves as a great conduit to tech-based education and scholarship opportunities,” said Metro Esports’ CEO, Shaon Berry. “Metro is excited to partner with Mayor Small, as well as the Atlantic City School District, in giving young people opportunity to stay in community with one another, compete, and have a great time doing it.”

Newzoo, a quoted source for games market insights and analytics, projected that 2019 will be the first billion-dollar year for eSports, a market that will continue to attract brands across all industries.

Mayor Small and Mr. Berry see the advantage of not only entertaining students but showing them what opportunities await in companies like Microsoft and SAP, a leader in business applications in the cloud, analytics, mobile and IT solutions.

“It gives me great pleasure for the City of Atlantic City and the Atlantic City School District to partner with Metro Esports,” said Mayor Small. “Metro Esports has great relationships and a partnership with NFL Flag, EA Sports and Logitech just to name a few. We look forward to our children in the great city of Atlantic City, receiving an amazing experience.”

NFL FLAG is the largest youth flag football organization in the United States. EA Sports is a division of Electronic Arts that develops and publishes sports video games, and Logitech produces video conferencing products including webcams, headsets, and video solutions.
