Career services work. The University of Baltimore County (UMBC) students in this group photo were just a few of the undergrads who landed internships at the 2018 BEYA STEM Conference Job Fair.

“Thank you for checking in to obtain our student success stories from the BEYA conference. Below are two hires that quickly came to mind,” wrote Christine Routzahn, director of the UMBC career center.

Information systems major Oluwakayode Akinrinade was offered a software engineering internship with Leidos, one of the largest defense security contractors in America.

A cyber scholar, Akinrinade expects to graduate in 2019.

Currently, he is vice president of UBMC’s Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity: Zeta Upsilon Chapter, treasurer of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and a student ambassador of the Black Student Union.

Economics major Devaughn Davis is off to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in Virginia to serve as a payment/research management support intern. Along with the bank’s 2,700 employees, Devaughn will help carry out the Fed’s day-to-day operations in IT, finance and accounting,  economics, and more.

The UMBC Career Center’s vision is to empower its more than 13,000 students to create their own success stories.

At least two were made at the BEYA STEM Career Fair in the nation’s capital last February.

This year, more than 4,690 students were at the job fair, with college seniors making up 35 percent.  Organized by the annual conference’s parent company, Career Communications Group, CCG’s JobMatch division links certified and qualified college students with internships and full-time jobs.
