At a recent Career Communications Group conference, The MITRE Corporation presented the Crown Jewels Analysis for Industrial Control Systems. This analysis aims to identify the most critical assets for accomplishing an organization’s mission. Cedric Carter Jr., a principal of MITRE’s Mobile, Embedded, and Cyber-Physical Security, was the keynote speaker.

The Crown Jewels Analysis is a process and toolset that can pinpoint these assets. Recently, it has been applied to operational technology and control systems like electrical, water, and building automation for government sponsors.

This analysis captures the impacts on mission, task, and function levels, which is useful for developing mitigation strategies and operating procedures.
