Microsoft and NGA to create a truly virtual earth
Microsoft and the National Geospatial Agency (NGA), a global mapping organization, have announced an alliance that will advance the creation of a truly virtual Earth, in preparation for disasters around the world. Recently, the NGA used the Microsoft Virtual Earth platform to develop a mapping site for relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region. In the future, NGA will use the Microsoft Virtual Earth platform, or online mapping and search services, to provide imagery for peace keeping, national-security, and humanitarian efforts to their customers.
