Black America Today Provides Fresh Look at African Americans

Blacks have the highest level of trust in the education system and black media to treat them and their families fairly, according to a new study that provides the most detailed snap shot of African American life in the United States today. Radio One, Inc., one of the largest broadcasting companies that primarily targets African American and urban listeners, commissioned the study to learn more about all aspects of their lives—how they get information, whether they are plugged into the Internet, and what they want for themselves and their children. The survey of 3,400 African Americans between thirteen and seventy-four years of age, has identified defined groups within Black America today, ranging from Connected Black Teens, Digital Net workers and Black On liners at the younger end, to Faith Fulfills, Broadcast Blacks and Boomer Blacks at the older end.

Taking the LEAD for Engineering Students

What do high school students interested in engineering need and want? Access to scholarships and opportunities. Hearing the call, Google and Dupont, one of the world's most dynamic science companies, have signed on to sponsor the first LEAD Summer Engineering Institutes for academically strong high school students of color at Georgia Tech and the University of California-Berkeley. The aim is to introduce students to careers in engineering. “High school is the ideal time to introduce students to engineering careers by challenging them with hands-on lab experiences and team-based project work,” says Don P. Giddens, dean of Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering.

CCG Publisher and CEO gives commencement speech at UMES

Career Communications Group Publisher and CEO Tyrone Taborn, PhD(hc) delivered the commencement address to the 2008 graduating class of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He discussed the social value of degrees, and the important role American college graduates play in reaching out to the world community. “[T]o be successful, to become who we need you to be, this education must foster the habit of critical thinking. It must nourish innovation and imagination. It must expand our worldview and our compassion for all of mankind. That means understanding and respecting major world religions, economic conditions in developing countries, and the poverty, disease, and hope-lessness with which a large proportion of the world's people live from day to day.”

Black Technology

A virtual spokesperson for black technology, BlackEngineer aspires to serve as leading news and information provider on the advancements in black technology with deep insights into black engineering, black entrepreneurs, black education, and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). In fact, BlackEngineer is one of the very few to promote the achievements of black technology. The Black engineer of the year awards (BEYA) is one of our successful ventures to promote black technology, progress and achievements made in black technology, and the sentiments of the Black community in the US, the UK, Caribbean, and Africa.

Black Entrepreneurs

Black technology entrepreneurs are increasingly providing the horsepower that drives the global economy. Over the last two decades, black entrepreneurs have created more jobs, and contributed much more to the economic expansion of the Black community as a whole, than any black pastor or politician. Black entrepreneurs are taking risks and building businesses that generate economic growth and increase prosperity in underserved areas, as more minority-owned and minority-focused businesses emerge, willing to serve the financial needs of Black entrepreneurs. US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine's annual list of Top Black Technology Entrepreneurs reflects the expanding scope of leading Black entrepreneurs in information technology, homeland security, and defense.
